Re: Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

Heres how I modified the Intake on the Lockwood. I think a pic does wonders, after this mod, it ran. I never had it so easy to start. Might be a fluke, but it starts right up. Maybe a vid tomorrow, will have to buy a coupla beers for my neighbor so they wont get mad at me for running it longer than ...

Re: Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

Oh, Now I think I know where your coming from. I was just opening the gas flow real slow. I opened it real fast today, and it took right off to full throttle, valve about 3/4 open (I think) The CC started to get red first, but the cone is from thinner material than the CC or tail pipe, so that was r...

Re: Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

Hey Joe,
How do you hear that the CC is long? The reason I ask is, because Ive only heard PJs on the Internet and never one in person.
Is there a special tone to them, cause, I think some sound different than others.
My cam was maybe a foot or 2 from the motor.

Re: Building Larry Cottrill's 'Lady Anne Boleyn' rev 06

Well, The Lady Anne aint such a lady after all, It almost made me deaf, It dont run yet, but the thing sounded like a M16 on steroids. Banging real fast, kind of a LOUD crackling kind of tone, Chamber got hot, as a matter of fact, the whole thing was hot, but the chamber was red first. That means it...

Re: Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

I did that too, It pegs the needle at 20 meters also, Its LOUD!! I have to do this in my garage, its 20 meters long, and I was at the other end. My son said not much difference. I didnt check between the 20, cause If I run it that long, the neighbors cry. This motor starts right up, COLD,surprised m...

Re: Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

Here is a makeshift drawing for the Intake I made, Of-course, all radians should be the same, difference between outer pipe ID. and intake OD. about 4-5mm. It all depends on the ID. of your intake. The radiused Intake pipe is than welded to the end of the outer pipe, leaving a chamber between the ou...

Re: PyroJoes Recipe for Beginners

IMG_1353.JPG Well, I guess I qualify as a Beginner, as I just started building a PJ Motor not to long ago. Pyro, I did a motor using your CALIBER Method, added a bit of tuning to the Intake tract, and I now have a lockwood that starts and self sustains with not even a blow of air to it. I built it,...

Testing the sound output of a Small Pulsejet

I just got this one going, after a 1 year break, Hooked it up to the tank, lit it up with a Lighter, and ran it up to Full Throttle. Loud little sob. Used my DB Meter to see just how-many Decibels it would put out, My meter is calibrated to a Police DB Meter, so I know it is Accurate. This PJ is my ...

Re: Building Larry Cottrill's 'Lady Anne Boleyn' rev 06

Glad to hear ya say that, just couldnt let it go to long, neighbors were at home  Maybe tomorrow Ill have better luck, finally getting something like this to work, and understanding why it does work is a big relief, Ive been puffing air through it for so long, I didnt ever think it would go. Th...

Re: Building Larry Cottrill's 'Lady Anne Boleyn' rev 06

Man, Has it been a while. Ive not even fooled with the pulse jet in about a year (had a stroke) Looked in the garage today, and saw it sitting there under my workbench,(The Lockwood) WOW, I totally forgot about it (kind of) Looked over the whole thing and worked out the formulas again, made some inj...

Re: PyroJoes Recipe for Beginners

Good job, Looks like the combustion chamber could be a couple of centimeters shorter, but it starts easy enough. The problem I encountered with air bleed systems is there is on average about 1 to 2 psi of pressure near the CC. If the system is moved far away from the CC then the intake typically wi...

Re: PyroJoes Recipe for Beginners

My neighbor is gone :D Time to test, put a sparkplug in it today, built my mini spark unit, fired the plug, added air, opened the gas and WHAM it went, almost blew the vice it was clamped in off the bench. I thought, well, if a bang can do that, what happens when it runs, lotta bangs, and it should ...

Re: PyroJoes Recipe for Beginners

No regulator on the bottle, I will try the injectors and give them a good testing, as I can slide my injectors in the bracket straight into the CC. Maybe Im just trying to hard, it cant be so complicated, or my motor needs to be red hot before it will catch, dont wanna run my neighbor out of the hou...

Re: PyroJoes Recipe for Beginners

Nice job on getting it running! now put some more fuel in it because it's only barely idling. If you thought this was loud, just wait... Well, using the rosscojector seems to limit the gas a bit, if I open the gas valve anymore, it just stops running, no flameout. Like in the vid. Kind just blows t...
