Ryan's Marquardt Firebrand drone

No, not a German Focke-Wulf Ta 283, but the Ryan Aeronautical Firebrand ramjet powered drone.
There is some film on YouTube re the development.
Literature search says Marquardt was largely responsible for the ramjet engines mounted on the ends/tips of the horizontal stabilizer.

Ryan Aeronautical Gluhareff drone

I don't know where I found this, but I guess Ryan was happy enough with the thrust from the Gluie 130 that they used one/them as (a) sustainer(s) for their drone aircraft.
Note the intake scoop below the fuselage.

Building a Stram axial pressure jet engine

Without going into a great deal of commentary I'm posting the 1/4 scale sketch of what I came up with. The total combustion volume, jetting, nozzle, number of coils all remain unchanged. What is different: The combustion chamber is ~ 5/8" longer. This change has been made because it is assumed there...

Re: Plans for my axial Gluie 130R engine

Addendum to the above: To start with I'd use a #54 0.055" drill bit for the metering jet...and a #32 0.116" drill bit for the hot nozzle. This works out well because upsizing the jet and nozzle only requires upsizing to the drill bits noted above. The SFC for this engine is ~ 1lb.fuel/1lb.thrust/hr....

Plans for my axial Gluie 130R engine

<t>I finally got a chance to draw my modified version of the Gluie 130R engine and provide all the specs for a complete engine build. ***Please note that increasing the diameters of the 2nd and 1 stages of this mostly scale 130R engine has NOT resulted in complete suppression of combustion gases at ...

Re: Diffuser data

Doesn't apply to straight ....the added "curvatures however are "supposed to" mitigate for the flow problems.

LOCKWOOD HILLER TIPJET?

Never would have thought that someone would try this. Hats off to the creative mind! To consider for a moment that these U-shaped babies would be used for rotary aircraft "tipjets," well to quote Vizzini ," is inconceivable!" Looked through this entire section and couldn't see that anyone had posted...

Re: Fixing the 130R

re the theory about the changes to the intake: 1) first, re the lengths....the fundamental wave created by the 2nd stage intake tube (the longest) is reflected back from the far wall of the combustion chamber "CC" and is the inverse (opposite) of the incoming wave. This situation sets up the appropr...

Fixing the 130R

Gluefixes.jpg Without going into allot of theory these are the charges I recommend: 1) Diameters of the "intake" tubes: starting with the second tube/intake: increase the INSIDE diameter to 3.5625" (3 and 9/16".) Decrease the minimum diameter INSIDE to 4.09375" (4 and 3/32"). or 4.0625" (4 and 1/16...
