Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

The 5l tank and short aluminium sleeve are now gone - I've now got a metre of copper tubing and a small coffe can - I guess that was pretty stupid of me :D . Actually - do you really think I could just use the hose as a fuel tank? If so it would save me alot of trouble. The garden hose was all I had...

On the right track?

Ok - here's how i'm doing - what do you think?
Axial Venturi 1.jpg
New axial fuel pipe setup - air will have to come from a manually aimed tube.
New fuel tank 1.jpg
Empty wood stain can - used to contain petroleum-based solvents. Off cock used as a hose connector and can still be used to cut fuel flow.
New fuel setup 1.jpg
Just found the old mole grip - I'll use this as a fine control

Re: Cheating at pulse-detonation

Don't worry - I'm a long way off doing anything with acetylene - I'm not even sure if it's legal to sell round here.
Also - it was only a thought... I knew there'd be some sort of problem with it - I was just putting the idea out there.

Re: Cheating at pulse-detonation

Fedde If someone doesn't get there first, maybe I will give it a try - but right now its beyond my means. I'd love to experiment with these ideas, but first I'll need more experience, and alot more money... I'd need a superalloy like inconel or something, or maybe titanium. Right now I can't even we...

Re: Cheating at pulse-detonation

I'm pretty new here and very inexperienced - but this topic caught my eye... Has anyone here experimented with injecting acetylene charges into a standard pulsejet? According to wikipedia, acetylene gas explodes violently at pressures above 39psi. Is there not a way to modify a pulsejet to produce t...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Ok, I can get hold of a metal bottle and maybe buy/make something to control fuel flow finer - a hoffman clip or something similar perhaps. I'll mount the venturi axially like yours - I just thought most people used a tube from the side.

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Tried the gas again - it ran out before I could get a proper run in. I'm now focusing on a venturi. I drilled two 1mm holes in a short aluminium sleeve - this fits in the base of the venturi. For a flow regulator I used a cheap radiator off cock which fits snugly into the top of a water bottle - I'm...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Ah, I see...
Thanks, Grim. I should be able to solder together something along those lines - I'll run my jet again this weekend and post the results.
Again, many thanks for all your help.

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Ok, I'll put together a rosscojector and try another run with the butane (Summer here looks about the same as Winter, so I may also have to warm up the tank). I'll also put together a venturi like you say from some cups or shakers or something - will any thin tube work for the venturi to work? I've ...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

I don't really want to fork out for a propane tank - I'll have another go with the remaining butane like you suggest. I looked up the 'rosscojector' - just a tube pinched closed with a v shape cut into it, right? How does that allow for no ignition system? I'll try a venturi too. I did begin to make...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Ok, I'll stay away from pressurized liquid fuel for now. I'll try again with the gas and the radial nozzle but I suspect that the tank is not only running low but also contains just butane - Bruce Simpson said there's no point in trying to use butane, so it looks like I'll have to use a venturi. Are...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Thanks, guys. I'll close off the pipe like you said - I'll also check the local hardware store for a <1mm drill. So - it's ok just to send the fuel straight in like that? I'll try using different fuels and may be able to get hold of a small quantity of methanol - only about 1/2litre. I'm thinking I ...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Cheers - pictures work fine now. The others were just too high resolution, I guess. The pulsejet is very crude compared to most others I've seen, but it is my first and I'm still learning alot. However, I'm pretty sure all the inerds should work fine. There's no intake/venturi on this. There was non...

Re: Running a no-weld pulsejet

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. I think calor is a mix of propane and butane - i don't know exactly what the ratios are. At the moment, I don't have any methanol, but i can het hold of some methylated spirits - I know it's mostly ethanol, but will it do instead? It looks like i'm going to have t...

Running a no-weld pulsejet

I've posted a couple of times on similar threads regarding the no-weld pulsejet, and now I'm at the stage of actually trying to run it. I've done a couple of test runs with my pulsejet, but all I can get out of it is a loud pop now and then. I've sealed all joins up with firegum. The valve is a stan...
