Re: Alternative Technologies plans

From the inlet spike I'd have to guess a ramjet. Actually it looks a lot like Fono's ramjet.

Query

Just how far do the reed and petal valves in valved pulsejets have to open for the engine to operate effectively? I wonder if it would be possible to use a springless hinged plate in place of the flat springs used in nearly all valved pulsejets. Has anyone done this and if so how did it perform?

Re: 321-Blaster

Interesting. I think I see some thermojet and FWE in there. I wonder just how much of a boost in performance you can expect from the cone on the end.

It's time's like these I'm very thankful for the Wayback Machine. Best of luck.

Re: Messerschmitt design?

Well I finally finished the engine in SolidWorks between lectures and homework and it's a heavy piece of equipment at about 28 kg with a wall thickness of .035 and all cast stainless. I'm not sure that would be needed or even a good idea but the materials can be changed easily enough at this stage. ...

Re: Caged Ball Valves

I think that so far the direction has been a bit wrong. One big valve probably won't allow sufficient air in for a good run and making them too small will just cause them to burn up no matter how many you have because iron burns pretty easily when it doesn't have anywhere for the heat to spread out ...

Caged Ball Valves

I was thinking about the biggest problem with valved pulsejets today while at school, that the valves wear out so quickly, when it dawned on me that there was a valve used in early artificial hearts that had to work on changes in pressure in a way not too dissimilar to valved pulsejets and couldn't ...

Re: Newb with a question!

A simple spark plug will probably do the trick, just cut a hole in the CC and weld in the plug. Once the engine is going it shouldn't need the spark anymore and I think I read somewhere that it may actually interfere with the operation of a running PJ.

Re: "Thunderchine" 55 lb thrust pulsejet plans

A shame there doesn't seem to be much room for wrapping fuel lines around the exhaust section for regenerative cooling with those thrust augmentors mounted but as I'm still a bit of a noob on pulsejets I'm not sure if that would be such a good idea with the thermal stress it can cause. Wouldn't want...

Re: Messerschmitt design?

I've decided to build this engine in Solid Works in my free time and was wondering just how thick should the sheet metal be on this engine? I saw some dimensions around the CC but aside from that it didn't appear to include those. Maybe I missed them. I'm also curious about the most efficient placem...

Re: Pressure Gain Combustion (Now Proven)

That's just insane. Why not just use a purpose built turbine engine? There were a few proposed showroom models that would have run on a turbine instead of pistons and they do superior power and speed but at the rate they guzzle gas you're either not going far or you'll need deep pockets because of h...

Re: Pressure gain combustion ?'s

Just been thinking and playing around in the garage.... At what point is induced flow "bad" for a pj? Interesting question, am I correct in assuming you're afraid that with too much air being force in it will stop acting like a pulsejet and more like a conventional combustion chamber? Partial choke...

Re: Pressure gain combustion ?'s

You know, I've taken a peak at some of the first gas turbine engines and it seems that one of the original attempts by Frank Whittle involved placing several small combustion chambers around the compressor/turbine. The compressor would force air into the combustion chambers and the exhaust would be ...

Re: Pressure gain combustion ?'s

Why not, instead of placing several engines around the shaft, compressor and turbine, simply run the shaft through the middle of the engine? I was under the impression that current turbojets did just this and used an almost toroidal combustion chamber open at both ends built around the central shaft...
