Re: Simple No-weld Pulsejets!! Or are they?

Here's a clip of a pipe"something" that I made last year from cast fittings. No welding. It howls.

Re: Tin Can jets

MoeHawk: Can you post a picture of what you have? I'm unsure about what you mean when you mention "shoot out the top". There are two or three holes in the can, of course, but they should all have either a pipe in them (two of the holes, intake and exhaust) or a spark plug (if you are using one). The...

Re: Tin Can jets

Grim: Thanks. The tail is a piece that I had lying around. I will try to optimize it shortly. pretty much weldless, It's completely weldless. It literally screws together like its pipewood cousins. I do have a piece of lighter SS tubing that is just a tad too small. If (when) I can find away to bush...

Re: Tin Can jets

It was suggested back in December, when I posted a video of a tin can pulse jet that worked, that I try for a more robust design. Here's one. The video is dark. When I can get to the video editor, I'll brighten it up It's a SS water bottle. A 1 1/4" pipe nipple screws directly into the neck of the b...

Re: Tin Can jets

It's a goofy setup. I just had a thought - how simple and fast could I make one that would run? It's a #15 can that I drained of broth. I cut a 3/4" hole in one end and made a few relief cuts around the edge of that hole and then forced a length of thin walled steel pipe in. I made a couple of L-sha...

Re: Tin Can jets

Enjoyed this thread. Here's one that I made the other day from a soup can and some scrap pipe.

Basketball pump start

A kind of goofy note but the discovery was fun. Last weekend I finally had all my pipewoods/chinese pipes running. Today, I came back to one of them, a scaled down version of the two inch; it's made from 1 1/2" fittings. It has been difficult to get to start but I had it running well the other day. ...

Re: Weldless Chinese: success with 2" Wye

First - changing to 3/16" tubing made all the difference with the 1 1/4 Wye setup. Encouraged by the progress with the 1 1/4" Wye fitting, I picked up a two inch Wye. I scavenged the 2" to 1" bell reducer from my first pipewood, along with the exhaust and the 3/4" inlet. Pretty much it is the same l...

Re: Weldless Chinese!

I am using a brake line stinger. It's 1/8th I.D., I believe.

Re: Weldless Chinese!

Problem: I can't get it to REALLY roar. It heats up, runs and runs, but there comes a point when I add more fuel that the pulsing stops and it just belches flame, like a giant blowtorch. When I throttle back, the pulsing starts again. It always sounds like it wants to take off but it doesn't. Sugges...

Re: Weldless Chinese!

Yes. I throttled it up just after taking that bit of video. I still need to experiment with all the geometries.

Re: Weldless Chinese!

Mike, et al: I did get around to buying and trying a Wye fitting from McMaster. Not wanting to drop the $40 for the two inch version, I settled for 1 1/4". The upshot is that the thing works marvelously well. I used a 3/4" intake and a one inch exhaust. Spark plug is fitted into a pipe cap with a ve...

Re: Weldless Chinese!

Mark: Thanks for the info. I do need to add to my stock of taps. I put together a version of this weldless thing with some pieces that I had close by - a 1 1/4" Tee,a 1 1/4" reducing coupling and a cap, a hex reducer to 3/4". a 3/4" nipple for the intake along with a 3/4" 90deg.(I think maybe a 45 w...

Re: Weldless Chinese!

Thanks for the info about that fitting. I was afraid that was the case. I have looked at the WYE from McM. In fact I put together and order today for one with what I think are the appropriate fittings. Those wyes are expensive - the 2" is $39. So I'm thinking it out. I have another order ready to go...
