Re: Tenney's rotary Dynajet

Hello again everyone. I was looking at the design and i could just imagine what a compressor on that shaft could do, it would have to be geared to get up to spooling speed, maybe with a planetary gear set. It would essentially be a supercharged pulse jet (hmm i wonder how the cycle would look?) :sho...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

Alex, what a noble effort! I basically agree with you -- it would have been better to do something simple and well proven for your first go at it. But, that's part of gaining experience. Will the film covering shrink tight with a heat gun or something? The wing surfaces need to be really smooth to ...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

What fuel do you use? I was considering gasoline, but i thought the 100% methanol would be cooler, since i was doing static runs.
the rim you see on the edge of the engine was just so i could hold it in the lathe without deforming the opening, I should have cut it down.

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

thanks for the advice Jerry, i have been absent from the site in awhile. I am now planning on making another jet. I have left the first one in Trinidad and now i am back home. I realize what you are saying about the fins, they had no real benefit, it took forever to turn those out on the lathe too :...

Re: Max Speed? Please help.

You can do a simple test to obtain the drag coefficient of the engine, its much simpler than that of the plane. What you can do is mount the engine on an air track (low friction), use a fan with a digital read out of its speed. The engine should have a load cell or newton meter attached so you can g...

Re: dynamic modeling of a strip valve

hello webpilot, Do you have a report in PDF? The info you have here is very interesting but at the same time its overwhelming and i am trying to put it all together. I am guessing you are a mechanical engineer, on a masters level? I am seeing some similar stuff to what i did at school like the frequ...

Re: Caged Ball Valves

I was looking on the design and its a nice concept. What could help with the heat is having the balls with an aluminum core, or a quick melting metal. Maybe the heat will go in latent heat to melt the core instead of the ball. Similar to sodium in car valves. One other idea is using ceramic ball bea...

Re: power equation

for my pulse jet project, i actually found out the theoretical power of the engine by use of some equations, it may be arguable that they are not the best representative of the engines power, but its not an estimate. by using the 3 stage lenoir thermodynamic cycle and by taking some temperature and ...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

dont worry man , he wont be looking on this site. yeah about the plane, it was complete stress trying to make it, i have never flown a plane before, i practiced on flight sim  to lay down the monokote i used a wet cloth and a clothes iron; i pressed the cloth on the face of the iron. i checked ...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

here is my plane, that "lady" in the video iS actually a man, hehe. he is a friend of mine and a technician he helped out with the plane more than the engine. he was a technician at the airport in trinidad. lol i see why he would be easily mistaken for a woman, maybe spend too much time on his hair ...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

well i actually put it on a plane i designed. but things didnt turn out so well, i tried to make a pulse jet trainer that actually had a rudder since i have never seen a t tail pj plane. i did my cad drawings as usual, got some balsa and aluminum and started to build, again this was my first time ma...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

here is the video i cut in 3 parts. enjoy! well you guys have more experience in this thing than me so yuo can tell me if its doing what it supose to do. this is in trinidad even though i am jamaican. the climate is warmer than in the states and less humid. this is 100% methanol . i rushed the fuel ...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

what would make this even better is the video, but first here is the picture of the engine after running it. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d83/alexsmikle/DSC00019.jpg its no longer nice and white, its now a purplish colour near the cone section. its also a little more yellow. i lost a thermocoup...

Re: my dyna jet inspired pulse jet project

i also hammered the flare on the end of the tail pipe. the pipe was a 1/16 inch pipe. i used the lathe to take of couple thousanths of thickness. i knew stainless was hard to machine but i didnt know it would be so chattery. i had to change my tool bit and i was also in for some high frequency squea...
