This concept is also known as the ramrocket, and there's even a comprehensive Wikipedia article about it. Seems it works, and more, it could be more efficient even than hydrogen/oxygen engines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramjet#Integral_rocket_ramjet.2Fducted_rocket http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra...

re: Prettiest FWE (?) - the 'Lady Anne Boleyn'

Anyone yet try hydroforming an entire FWE or a Chinese? You could add as many cones as ever needed, all welding would be boring and easy, and the engine would be both smooth and leak-free once in shape. And lighter weight than with the standard tubes. Wonder how easy it'd be to make the intake from ...

re: Theoretically scaling pulsejets UP

Purchase a missile silo complex and join a couple of the launch tubes at the bottom. Then some creative steel and concrete filling to form some cones. I understand some of those places even have earthquake / nukewar protections in the form of giant shock absorbers, and are also supposedly designed t...

re: Water pulsejet

During the last Kaljakellunta (www.kaljakellunta.com, see pics there) I thought, next year I'll just have to have a propane torch put-put engine for my rubberboat. Like a torch and a length of copper tube, some of which is coiled to make a flash boiler. Those small toy boats all over the internet se...

re: Help with my uglier stick, I'm about to burn it

How much gas do such cartouches actually give? If a camping stove can easily make 10k btu, that would mean half a pound per hour propane vapor?

What about liquid? I bet those little cans don't have safety features to prevent that.

I just hosted the entirety of Reynst's Pulsating Combustion (25meg) on my site. Enjoy. http://www.bell-everman.com/kazoojet.htm Can't get. The webserver reports it as ~23 megabytes (which download fine), but unzip reports end-of-central-directory signature not found, which would indicate that somet...

Re: re: the hyperdimensional resonator

cells from a rat brain, stuck some wires to it, and taught it how to fly a F22? I always wondered if you could just plug stuff into your brain and have it learn how to use it. Maybe someday we will all have built in calculators, equation solvers, spell checkers, dictionaries, encyclopedias, digital...

Anders, Hehe, I like especially the last line. Many anti-heavy metal Finns actually promised that they'd migrate to Sweden if Lordi won. Any sign of them yet? Just Sunday I was in heavy karaoke again, sang Master of Puppets, Two minutes to midnight and Symphony of destruction. My neck is still a bit...

re: The future of Jet travel?

As for riding bike to work, I've done that for years, summer and winter. Only a 20-30 minutes ride, though, weather ranges from -20 to +30 C. Just a question of choosing the right clothing, and if I ride fast or have to pedal in snow, then also need a shower afterwards - but that's just a timing que...

Re: re: The future of Jet travel?

Making fuel from random biomass is no trivial task. You can use bioreactors, but they require ideal conditions and you don't get very fast methane production. They also create a lot of sludge. Simply burning it isn't the solution either; anyone who's ever seen a grass fire knows that it isn't a cle...

Re: re: The future of Jet travel?

One thing is, where to take from the energy to distil high-percent alcohol liquids? If you take that energy from fossile resources, you do even run in a larger problem. Easiest: you use energy from the same biomass to power the conversion. Now humanity uses more and more fossil fuel to get the oil/...

Re: re: eliminating (or significantly reducing) recoil

the speed at which RDX expands is approximately 25,000 fps. .... would it break up in the barrel from acceleration? im sure at some point it would, but at 15,000 fps, it will not break apart, metals are soft and can be molded. if it was a ceramic projectile, then i agree it would be shattered. Yes,...

re: eliminating (or significantly reducing) recoil

An open barrel won't do the trick. Most of the blast would go straight out of the back, inducing recoil forward. At least the gases first have to set the round moving, then they can be ejected through a rear-facing port. Not eliminating recoil, but considerably decreasing it. Of course you'll need m...
