My large pulse-jet runs on liquid propane and runs pretty stable once the preheater coil has warmed up. I have the throttle located just before the pre-heat/evaporater coil. Putting in a pre expander defies the purpose of the evaporator, It will freeze and you'll end up trying to run your engine on ...

If you'd bend your fuel line (stainless) around the hottest part of your engine a couple of times (6-7) you can run liquid propane, by turning your bottle upside down, to the "evaporater". Start with the throttle way down till it heats up.... You can run it till it flames out and your bottle wont fr...

A thin piece of sheet metal will do the job.
As all the heat is radiation, you'll only have to create "shade", meaning that anything thin enough to not hold the heat will be enough.

Looks to me that your flameholder is bending by the force of the blower. Remember it is very hot during a run. Perhaps try a more heat resistent steel as well as different shapes. Nice work!
