Re: Technical help required
Saw your posting taking my morning coffee and said to my self "Hoo well ... Why not ... Have been away from this site to long". Well well well, great minds think alike. Good to see all the old faces in here :D I agree that the pipe is too short. For a 4cm diameter you need a total length of about 9...

Got a bit warm at work yesterday
We're filming for an upcoming science series. One of the gags is a bottle rocket made from a water container off a water dispenser which we're running on methanol. I'm lighting it, lights off, roll the camera chaps: http://www.dropfiles.net//files/319/random%20pics/bottlerocket-1.jpg http://www.drop...

Re: Pressure Gain Combustion (Now Proven)
Hi Mike, yup, long time no see! Good to see you all still on here! I expect it won't be as easy when the turbo represents more impedance to the motor Hi Mike, Remember the above sentence of your ??? Well ... I am in it up to my hears now ... :? :( I am trying to have the bigger setup running but the...

Re: Pressure Gain Combustion (Now Proven)
Good effort Luc. Just a crappy picture but here's the one I built for my degree:
I didn't get a chance to measure any rpm's but it ran pretty fast and glowed up like yours!
I'll buy you a beer, we can toast to everyone who says it can't be done!

Jesus you lot. No wonder I and a number of others don't bother coming here much any more. I'm literally shaking my head. Edit: In fact this thread has confirmed it for me. I've packed up my sig and I'm off. You can find me at Retro Rides, I doubt I'll be posting here any more with all this bravado, ...

re: Something on pressure regulators...
My variable regulator runs from 0-60psi and its great for running my 2" exhaust valved jet. It's just a matter of getting the right regulator and I think I got lucky when I bought that one. It probably wouldn't run much bigger than that but then the gas wouldn't come out the bottle much faster eithe...

My bigger valved jet is mild steel. It gets orange hot and just starts to sag over the single middle mounting over time :D

re: Fire in the hole!
You could try stainless steel instead of spring steel. I found it doesn't deform like spring steel does but performs roughly the same.

re: How many things could be wrong?
I agree with mark, sounds like the valves are opening too far and not getting shut in time. Behind the valve you need a curved retainer to limit how far they open, I'd say no more than 3mm (or 1/8" in old money) Basically if they don't open far enough it just limits the top power and you can experim...

re: Started welding up my first Lockwood
Really nice little bike, I chopped up a 70's shopper for my test platform. So far I've lowered it, stretched it, raked the forks back, pulled out the handlebars and I've got a really sexy 1 gallon teardrop shaped motorbike tank mounted up front now. Just needs a bike battery, pump and jet mounted no...

re: Electric valve
The frequency does change on throttling though, especially when you are pumping large amounts of propane gas in the frequency goes down significantly and you can hear it. For a fixed throttle position I can't see why a poppet valve wouldn't work as it moves that fast in an IC engine at high revs. It...

re: New APC Motor #1
Looks great Bill and must be a lot smaller than it looks in the picture, this is obviously a very effective layout judging by the numbers from you and others using it. What sort of injector are you using on that? Mike thanks for cleaning the thread up, I was going to post some grief but thought bett...

re: help i need help
"Oh bollocks!" :D Yeah definitely looks like not enough fuel. Get yourself a 4kg propane bottle and a variable regulator for 0-4 bar. That will allow you to feed in a lot more gas and play with the quantity. If you can make a sparking circuit that makes multiple sparks it also makes starting a lot e...

re: the difficulty im having
Sounds like it needs a lot more fuel. What regulator are you using?
