Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

SO I thought I was going to have more time to run today but as it turns out I had a lot of loose ends which needed to be tied. The engine will remain in the lab and another engineer said he will most likely get me some more data in the future. I will be back to work in 3-4 months where I could pick ...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

It hurts to say, especially when what’s "right" may not be what’s "best", that I think I am going to leave it alone. I will continue to get test data that will be valid with today's data. Time is a killer and can't be slowed down or gotten back. With that being said, my regular pressure transducers ...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

Really short video of the Big Test Lady running. I have began data collection but I have more to do tomorrow.

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

Do we even have to call it a flare? Why not decorative trim. As you called me in the middle of my flaring ceremony, I decided to just leave it were it was at, plus I was getting bored hamming a nitrogen tanks valve-stem cap into the pipe (got to get creative)... With all due respect, I would rather ...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

The new engine is a monster in length, just thought I would post a pic of what should be the final engine.

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

OK, things have settled down for me today, looking back I don't know how I managed to make all the progress I did with the somewhat limited resources I had. M, I said I would get you a run clip of some kind today, as it turns out that won't happen, but I can assure you in the next 2 days all data I ...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

We have a running engine for instrumentation. Got to give M a round of applause, his adjustements were spot on. Still havn't flared the exhaust but since its running I think I'll just stop there, JUST KIDDING M... She is still hot from the last run but when she cools I will be out with the torch fla...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

M, Thanks for your advice and effort, I will get on that tomorrow morning. Since it takes no effort at all to do a quick run, I will take Joe's advice and give it a quick go before going on to the intake. Overall I think by days end I can have those changed made and a running engine. As for exhaust ...

She bangs She bangs

I'll keep this short, but I got her fueled up and ready to go today. She never self sustained today but I got a lot of strong grumbling out of her. I have began remaking new injectors one will be more or less an open tube, the other will have 4 holes over 2 inches drilled and the same pattern offset...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

Well I wouldn't say that I was unimpressed, we don't know that it wont be adequate to start the engine, and lets face it I am sure that there are plenty of sloppy injectors out there that are working for people. Not everyone does a flame propagation test.

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

I guess its a little on the short side, it measures just about 26" in length from the combustion chamber. If you look on the other thread Larry has plans posted. I hope I can get it to start with this length tube. It is only nichrome tack welded in so I could change it to a longer pipe, but I would ...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

I sent Larry the data seconds after taking it and it wasn't until I looked at the data and thought about the experiment that I realized I DID NOT flow the injector all the way up to being choked. I did however max out the instrument air supply for that particular test. By looks of the curve it was g...

Re: Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

Hey now, we had to use a 1/2 fitting so the pipe bend radius would clear and then because it’s a compression fitting if you wanted to be able to take it apart it needed to be a male thread welded to the engine - so that's the most efficient way to step from a 1/2 to a 1/4. We do that all the time on...

Big Test Lady FWE arrives in Aero/Combustion Laboratory

First and foremost, I would like to thank larry cottrill who provided me with a 90% complete FWE engine built with my supplied pressure taps for instrumentation. Upon receiving the engine, all that needed to be done was some light grinding, fitting the exhaust pipe, and running fuel/air line and all...
