Grain temp does make a difference. I have never actually measured just how much but I know a hot glob of rocket candy burns faster than a cold one. I think the variable nozzle is your best bet. Instead of having it round make it square and just have one of the sides swing in and out to very the KN v...

Check out this page. http://www.rocketryplanet.com/content/view/1062/28/ Also check out this page http://www.atf.gov/explarson/0504rocketryqa.pdf It would appear that it isn't illegal but the BATF is going to treat it as if it were. They want you to have a LEUP or keep it under 62.5 grams of propell...

re: Fast Sugar Propellant

You could make one that way, kind of like an estes rocket motor. I just don't like to drop the kn that much, ecspecially with a long tail off. I first thought about having alternating segments of cored and uncored to do the same thing, but i thought it migh just be easier to get the same results wit...

re: Fast Sugar Propellant

I have been thinking about the end burner and I think I have a potential solution. It doesn't have too much to do with grain geometry or the propellant burn rate, but instead with the inhibitor. Tell me if this has been done before. On James Yawn's web page he uses foil tape to inhibit grains. Well ...

check out this thread with my local rocket club http://www.uroc.org/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&Itemid=519&func=view&id=2494&catid=7 It is a long read but they have discussed this with a litle detail. Can a terroist make a bomb with sugar propellant? The answere is yes. If I were a terroist wou...

re: perchlorate cell

Before you guys get too excited I have not attempted to make any perchlorate, or even buy labware. I guess I am just the type of person who likes to know that if I wanted to do something, I could. Check out this web site.

perchlorate cell

This one is for you chemistry buffs. Also this thread may do better in the rocket forum, I guess will see how it evolves. I have been doing some research on making a perchlorate cell. It has been suggested, more than once, to use a lead dioxide anode. My question is will a lead dioxide cathode from ...

re: Make your own ethanol/methanol?

You guys are up to 60 liters? I am still brewing 5 gal at a time. I have been thinking of going larger, but I like using the demijohns. The best part of homebrewing is every once and a while you make a beer that is sooo good that if every beer was as good the whole world would be alcoholics!!

re: Make your own ethanol/methanol?

Good post tufty All of this talk about potential complications from distillation, Yet nobody has really focused much on making a mash, or what it really takes to make a high yield brew! Like I said before you really need to baby the yeast and give them what they want to eat. At best most of the time...

Congratulations! What is the size, impulse, KN etc of your engine? From what I could see it looked like it had a good start! Do you have a rocket to put it in?

re: Little guy rocket engine

Mark try making an engine they work pretty well. I am now on my way to see if the local smoke shop has any aluminum cigar tubes. I'm shooting for the 62.5-gram limit. You should be able to get a lightweight rocket pretty high in the air with just 60 grams of sucrose propellant.:)

Hay guys I went to a gun show and picked up one of these pill fobs for $4.00. re: Toxic fumes boiling KNO3 in water.

Linker: There is no easy way to answer your question. What determines if something is toxic (or not) depends on the dose and exposure rout. Even water can be toxic in high enough amounts. So to answer your question Yes some KNO3 is probably getting into the air and you are inhaling it. However your ...

If you read in the Tripoli rules it states that the sugar engines have to be dextrose or sorbitol based. I don't know how they would prove other wise. Just my luck the engine would cato, someone would get hurt, and that would be all the reason in the world for the insurance company to deny any payme...
