I'm quite certain he's just a myth.
An old myth, too. Alas.

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Hahahahaha, thanks, Tufty. An interesting paper. Wish we had the resources of those guys back then. Still, with all the resources at hand, including impressive computing power, they could not get their engine to sustain. :D Pulsejetting is still as much art as it is science and engineering. :D

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

More research for me then. Thank you though. And speaking of research I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the work you have done. Especially your historical review of pulsejets. I have read it many times and feel I learned more from that than any other single source. My gratitude Ca...

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Thank you for your reply Bruno. I have a couple general hypothetical questions about a PDE if you have the time. Is there a safe minimum thickness of stainless steel to use for a PDE with a combustion chamber at about 4" diameter? Also is there a rough estimation of the difference in power generate...

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Tufty, maybe you can acquire an original Ecrevisse. Take a look at this: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:1-7kdYhdGNQJ:www.trademe.co.nz/motors/specialist-cars/competition-cars/auction-748193229.htm+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk The guys obviously do not care very much about the jet engine...

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Here's the other one.

Both are really very rough. Sorry about that.

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Hello!

I've dug out a rough sketch of the Type B Ecrevisse with intake and exhaust thrust augmenters, with dimensions in milimeters.

I think I also have a sketch of another model. If I find it, I'll post it.

Good luck with the project.

Re: Blast Compression Intake proposed design

Yes. The short answer is there have been none. A long story would have a description of a British effort that yielded non-sustained series of something that looked like it would burst into life kicking and screaming any moment -- but never did.

Re: 75mm Locky Kazoo (say that 10 times fast)

Ah, the boys are back in town! Back to the what was it called? P51 hot air ramjet thruster thingy? though nothing beats the heat transfer of burning fuel in the air that is the working fluid... Sure enough. But... In combustion efficiency stakes, nothing beats fluid pressure, yet, pulsejets make do...

Sure enough. :) One would want to choose the core material wisely.

What about a hybrid engine? If the pulsejet as the heat core of a ramjet? Crimped large-surface tube would make sense then, as it would increase the heat transfer to the passing air. You'd have a ramjet that would operate from zero speed.

Re: Might Be a Good Book on Kadenacy Effect

Schultz-Grunow was not a genius. He was just a highly qualified engineer in the right place at the right time to observe, analyze and record the pulsejet thingy at its German technological peak. That's what makes his papers so valuable. Thanks for the link!

Re: Tesla's Valvular Conduit

Yes, that one was reportedly tested by Messerschmitt successfully, but why would you need one? What's wrong with the simple bending of the tube backwards? It's not like youl need fantastic aerodynamic qualities in real life. You are not building a cruise missile, right? No, but it's nice to have th...

Re: Tesla's Valvular Conduit

I agree with Mark Everman. Trick non-return intakes are a waste of energy. Whatever energy goes into the trick intake is lost to no good use. In effect, you are spending energy to defeat the energy you have just produced. Makes little sense. Far better to use the intake to produce thrust when it's n...
