You are absolutely right (although I would still like to measure its dynamic frequency response). However, now you got to get your computer to the pulsejet - which really doesn't like noisy, hot and dirty environments.
I'd rather take a recorder IF I could measure its limitations, calibrate it, and thus prove it really does not add that much error to the measurement.
After all, tape was used by engineers and scientists for decades. We still use it in VCR's - why, because we can still record on it, cheaply and effectively.

I am happy to hear that your AA powered recorder is better than the one I tried to use. It distorted my voice so badly, I put the recording on my answering machine.
