You cannot just say the small error measured for 512Hz is the same for the other frequencies. You must experimentally prove it.
You once thought the tape recorder was suspect. It isn't that much at 512 Hz, but what about the others?
That is just the nature of audio equipment. It is called the frequency response curve, and it should be flat over the frequency range in question.
The technique you are using at least allows you to address this issue.
