I like tape recorders. I like vcr's. A direct connection between the output audio from your vcr to your sound card would be ideal.
I liked your original .mp3 file, but you say the batteries may have been low when recording. Is there a reason you are not using a transformer (power supply) that you plug in the wall?
During my analysis, across the entire time period, I saw no indication of frequency shifting up or down for your .mp3 file. This to me would be an indication of low power.
To test the frequency response of your recording device, I have provided you here with some test files. Play them on your computer through your speakers, record the test sounds using the same technique (this is important) as you did for your chinese. Translate the recording into a .mp3 file and send it to me for analysis.
